As I sit down to reflect on the journey we’ve just completed, I’m filled with an overwhelming sense of pride and gratitude. Leading the second cohort of our Building Aspirations Programme has been nothing short of extraordinary. Watching these young people grow, learn, and evolve over the past few days has truly reminded me why I do what I do.
A Journey of Growth and Empowerment
The Building Aspirations Programme, delivered in partnership with RSA & UK Youth is designed to empower young individuals to push past their limitations, conquer their fears, and tap into their fullest potential. Based on feedback from our August cohort we decided to deliver the programme over two jam-packed days.
Throughout the programme, we tackled challenges head-on, explored self-awareness, and built vital life skills that will serve them long after the programme ends.
One of the most memorable moments came when we explored the concept of FEAR, which we redefined as False Evidence Appearing Real. This reframing was pivotal. Many of our participants began the programme with self-doubt, but by the end of Day One, we could see the shift. They were starting to break through mental barriers that once held them back, empowered with new coping mechanisms and a deeper sense of confidence.
Day Two: A Day of Skills and Celebration
Day Two was a whirlwind of learning, growth, and celebration. We dove into the power of body language, unlocking the non-verbal cues that can make or break a first impression. We also had an interview techniques session, led by the brilliant Damian Gannon from CAE Technology Services, was a true highlight. Damien’s expertise provided invaluable insight into how to navigate interviews with confidence and authenticity—skills that will open doors for these young people in the near future.
We also launched our scholarship initiative, a milestone we’re incredibly excited about. Offering financial support to help these aspiring individuals further their education and career aspirations felt like the perfect way to cap off the programme.
And of course, we couldn’t let the day end without celebrating their hard work. Presenting certificates to each participant was a moment of pride for both them and us. They’ve come so far in such a short amount of time, and seeing their smiles as they held those certificates was the perfect reminder of why this programme matters.
Sharing My Story: A Personal Connection
One of the most meaningful aspects for me personally was having the opportunity to share my own story via a panel session. I believe that real-life experiences carry a unique power to inspire, and being able to relate to their struggles while offering a glimpse of what’s possible was an honor. We connected on a deeper level, and I know that the bonds we’ve created will continue to grow long after the programme has ended.
The Future is Bright
As the programme wraps up, one thing is clear: this is only the beginning. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for these talented, driven individuals. Their potential is limitless, and I’m committed to supporting them as they move forward on their journeys.
The Building Aspirations Programme has once again proven its impact, and I couldn’t be more proud of what we’ve achieved together. This cohort has reminded me of the incredible strength that lies within each young person. Sometimes, all they need is a little guidance, a push in the right direction, and the belief that they can accomplish anything.
Why I Do What I Do
Ultimately, this is why I do what I do. Seeing these young people grow, thrive, and chase their dreams is the most rewarding part of my work. It’s a privilege to be a part of their journey, and I look forward to continuing to mentor and support them as they step into the next chapter of their lives.
To everyone in Cohort 2, I am so proud of you. The world is yours—go and make your mark! 🚀 We are planning on running the programme again in November, If you'd like to get involved then please get in touch.
